a break in the 100 degree string of days

It's in the 80's today - thank God!  The windows are open the doors are wide, a breeze flows through.

This morning we headed out for a hike.  With over 80 days of temps in the 100's, we have not done much hiking.  It was good to be out.

Here are some pics of our hike around Granger Lake.

At the trail head; all smiles and hiking eagerness.  We recently watched a documentary on the Appalachian trail, we were all inspired.  Most of us were only inspired for the first 2 miles, then it got whiny.

Man and the H Bomb

Love this bit of bird nest, and late summer color.

Granger lake, always makes me wish for a tall glass of chocolate milk for some reason.

Low on water...

Me in my hiking attire - totally REI.  Wish I had a blue Volkswagen Bus!

Note the blurry bright green snake.  Man almost stepped on it before it headed vertical up a tree.

The Haunted Bridge

Check out EQ's socks.  I suspect that my mother intended these to be for me, but as soon as EQ saw them tucked into his birthday box he declared them "his new Lucky Sox".  They have cows on them, and yep they are pink.

Monkey boy.

Harley did great, but he really wanted Man to carry him that last 1/2 mile.

I heart cactus.

No, really!

Orange in a flower looks so yummy.

On the way home we could look South and see smoke.  Central Texas is on fire again.  One of our favorite towns is burning.  300 homes lost so far and they fear it will get worse before it gets better; school in canceled.

We need rain - get ye on yer knees you prayers!

Thanks
